Taste of the Tropics

Wednesday September 12, 2007
I was filled with nostalgia for summer today, because the warm weather is slipping away so fast. I had a perfect, fragrant cantaloupe resting on my kitchen counter that had already been set aside for a sweet fruit salad. Having eaten my fill of traditional melon dishes in the last few months, I searched my pantry, looking for inspiration for a new recipe. At last, I hit on an idea I had read long ago in a book about cuisine on tropical Martinique. I blended up a scrumptious Vanilla-Scented Melon Soup and drizzled the top with a touch of heavy cream. The flavor was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the preparation took only a few minutes. I’ve found my little slice of summer for when the winter skies turn too gray!
