The last cake I made was mocha sponge, layered with caramel buttercream, and glazed with dark chocolate ganache. My sweet husband, who often boasts to friends and family about the benefits of being married to a food writer, issued me an unusual challenge this week. After ten years of dutifully sampling – and usually polishing off – my recipe variations, he dared me to make something simple. “Make something the neighbor guy can make. I bet you can’t do it.” So, in honor of our bachelor neighbor, I rose to the challenge and whipped up an easy, three-ingredient vanilla Chantilly cream recipe and served it with a bowl of beautiful strawberries. The dessert was in perfect keeping with the practice of how to eat like the French and lose weight. Here’s to the simple food! Bon appetit!
