Every year, without fail, before we bundle up and go out to the Christmas Eve service at our church, I make beef Burgundy stew. I'll admit to fiddling with the recipe a bit every year, whether that means using a slow cooker one year to preparing it a day ahead of time or using a different wine in the sauce. This year, my stepfather brought venison home from his annual hunting trip, so I'll be making a rich venison Burgundy. The savory stew, served over spaetzle, is our holiday favorite. Bon appetit!
