This velvety smooth roasted apple purée recipe is a wonderful accompaniment to both pork and chicken dishes. Although the roasted apples are meant to be served warm with savory meat or vegetable dishes, they taste delicious as applesauce the next day.

Ingredients:
- 2 lbs firm spicy-sweet apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/16 teaspoon (scant pinch) ground allspice
Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 400F. Toss the apples with the oil and lemon juice and arrange them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Roast the apples, stirring occasionally, for 25 to 30 minutes, until they turn golden brown.
Purée the apples and the allspice in a food processor or blender until they are smooth. Serve the puréed apples immediately.
