A cooking mentor of mine always said there is a wine for every occasion. If thats true, there is surely a sparkling wine for every special occasion. Here is a selection of sublime, non-vintage French sparkling wines to fit every budget and event.
Saint-Hilare, Blanquette de Limoux, Blanc de Blancs NV: This is an amazingly good wine, stunningly so when you consider the price. It has a fizzy snap to it, with fresh apple notes and a delicious creamy, floral aroma. This Blanc de Blancs is a conversation piece it's considered Frances first sparkling wine and has been carefully made for centuries in a Benedictine Abbey. $10
Lucien Albrecht, Crémant d'Alsace, Brut NV: Made with only Pinot Noir grapes, this is a high quality, balanced wine with a fruity, floral mouth. The light crisp finish and beautiful coral pink color make it a very versatile wine to serve or give as a gift. $20
Leclerc Briant, Cuvée de Reserve Brut NV: This wine, made of two-thirds black grapes and one-third white grapes, features a balanced body and pleasant fruit accents. It is equally appropriate served at brunch, as well as a cocktail reception. $30
Chateau de Boursault, Brut Rose de Saignee NV: This is a crisp, pink Champagne with sharp fizz and bright berry tones. Its a very cheerful wine, best enjoyed alone or with dessert at a reception. This Brut Rose de Saigee is available in very limited quantities, because Chateau de Boursault uses only grapes grown on the estate. $35
Billecart-Salmon, Brut Reserve NV: This complex Champagne has intricately blended notes of citrus and dough, accented with apple, creamy almond, and just a hint of heady vanilla. It is refreshingly crisp, without overpowering the palate. $40
