What is the name and homepage of your French food blog?
Do you maintain it alone or use contributors?
Alone
When did you start your blog?
October 2004
Why did you start your blog?
Although there were many French food blogs, both in French and in English, none dealt with the 18th Century, when most of the recipe books and culinary dictionaries were published. Because I was a French Colonial reenactor, blogging about 18thC recipes was a niche I could fill.
What is your favorite part of being a food blogger?
I really enjoy finding an ancient recipe that is still being made today. Although we may have more description of technique and actual proportions of ingredients, the food is essentially prepared and eaten as it was 300 years ago.
What does your French food blog cover?
I discuss the archaeology of the implements used in the kitchen and how they have evolved as well as the actual translation of the food lore and recipes of the age. When a future archaeologist digs through my midden or the remains of my house, my remains will present a classification nightmare. Interspersed throughout will be actual 18thC antiques and modern equipment.
Lessons Learned
- I have never criticized another food writer
- There have been times when daily life interferred with posting, sometimes posts were weeks between
