What is the name and homepage of your French food blog?
Do you maintain it alone or use contributors?
Alone
When did you start your blog?
December, 2009
Why did you start your blog?
I started seriously cooking when I was 34, kind of by complete accident, then I started to take French cooking classes at a local culinary school. I am on a 5-year (ish) plan to move to France to run a small cooking school.
What is your favorite part of being a food blogger?
I like the conversational aspect to it. It feels like I'm talking to my friends.
What does your French food blog cover?
I am writing about my journey into French cuisine, researching a move to France, and re-learning (and expanding) my French. It's mostly about the food right now. I try to weave my personal life into the stories and to use humor. I discuss what worked well and what didn't go so well in my cooking experiments. I'm mostly self-taught, but I'm also trying to get a more formal cooking education, so that will weave itself into the blog write-ups as well. If I am lucky enough to eat in any of the fantastic French restaurants we have in the Washington, DC area I discuss those as well.
Lessons Learned
- I've learned that it's very hard to be motivated to write when you are exhausted from your day job. I took a very unintended several week break from writing, and felt terrible about it. I'm not sure yet what, if anything, I would do differently. I would like to add photos, but haven't gotten that sophisticated with it yet.
